Battle Over State Exchange Not Over

For those of you who don't already know, the Idaho Senate last week passes a bill authorizing the implementation of a State Health Insurance Exchange. The last stage the legislation must go through is the Idaho House, so it can still be stopped there. Traditionally the House has been more conservative and responsive to its base than the Senate. The federal government wants a state exchange more than anything else because it removes all sorts of potential legal impediments, as well as gives them powers that they only posses over us (the people) if our state government grants them.

Below is a copy from Suzie Alford's email giving contact info:
Please help...“Spread the word”...!!! Email the below contact information to all your friends. The House Business committee, the Gang of 16, the Governor and the House need to hear our opinions.

The State Healthcare Exchange bill has been referred to the House Business committee. These (6) "Gang of 16” members are on the committee. They need to hear from their constituents...and the rest of us too.

Idaho Sheriff's Association--A Sharp Contrast to Utah's

It appears that the federalization of our Sheriffs is farther along than I thought would be the case. The defense of the Constitution belongs to each of us, and understanding it is the individual duty of every citizen who values liberty. It means what it meant when it was writen, when it was ratified by the people. It doesn't belong to a liberal elite group of lawyers (judges), it belongs to us. And when anyone, especially law enforcement, takes an oath to support the constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, I don't see how that would not include judjes and politicians. The county sheriff is possibly the most important political possition that exists. We need to recruit and support good men in that office.

Open Letter to Our Senators (also sent directly to them)

Dear Senators,

With sequestration at the Federal level becoming more and more likely, it brings home the fact that the federal government does not have the financial resources to keep its current programs running at current levels. Only a fool would believe that our federal government will be able to come through on promises to spend more yet, given its absolute insolvency. Therefor implementing an expensive state exchange is a cost we cannot afford as a state. We will be left holding the bag on some or all of the cost of a state exchange as well as the cost of an even more socialized medical system. Nor can we afford to expand Medicaid, increasing dependency even as the system of entitlements is crumbling under its own weight. Are we really in a recovery? What happens when the federal government cuts spending? Can we afford to introduce more inefficiency and therefor cost into medicine and government through Obamacare? You guys are supposed to be leader. Leaders should be able to look several years down the road and anticipate obvious problems coming at us. Since there is no example of government taking anything over from the private sector and improving it, please reject this destructive leap of blind faith and make free market reforms in medicine, here in Idaho, to start to undo the government created problems crippling medicine.

Sincerely,

Gresham Bouma

Senator Fulcher Stands With the People

Idahoans Look to State as Last Line of Defense against Obamacare

Senator Russ Fulcher (Feb. 17, 2013)

The trouble with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA, or Obamacare) is that it doesn’t protect patients, make healthcare more affordable, or improve care. The trouble with a"state” (vs. federal) health exchange (S1042 & H179) is that it doesn’t place the state in control - a state exchange has to comply with the same rules as a federal one. In both pieces of legislation, one needs to look past the misleading titles and into the text itself. What these bills really do is increase government control at the expense of personal choice, freedom, and responsibility.
Obamacare is federal law, but that doesn’t make it right. There have been numerous"laws” changed when citizens get involved. Remember, it was once legal to enslave men and women according to race, but that wasn’t right then and it isn’t right today. For that law to be changed, courageous people had to stand for freedom and equality.
I believe Chief Justice John Roberts sent us a reminder of this when writing his opinion in the recent Supreme Court ruling (NFIB v. Sebelius). He said"…The States are separate and independent sovereigns. Sometimes they have to act like it.” Idahoans know this, and they expect action from their elected officials. I have received many messages asking for help in stopping Obamacare; and if we as state officials don’t take a stand, who will?
Obamacare and its’ implementation in Idaho (via an exchange) will be devastating to our economy. It is a federal power grab and an intrusion on individual privacy like we have never seen before. If the feds want their precious exchange so badly, we should make them own it along with the rest of Obamacare and its costly mandates. Idaho should resist being a subcontractor to Obamacare and reckless federal spending.
For Idaho to resist by itself probably wouldn’t have much impact on a national scale. But according to the Kaiser Foundation at least 25 states have already said NO to a voluntary state exchange. The more that resist, the better the chance of avoiding or mitigating the damages of Obamacare. Idaho needs to join the states saying NO!
In all my years in the Idaho Senate, there’s never been a single issue more important than this one. It represents the core of who we are, what we believe, and whether or not we are willing to stand for the freedom and liberty our forefathers died to obtain. Consenting to the proposed legislation is consenting to Obamacare. I can’t do that to the good people of Idaho looking for state officials to be their last line of defense.
Isn’t it interesting that the federal government (in debt some $16.5 trillion) is pushing for"mandates” on debt-free states like Idaho, forcing the same fiscal irresponsibility that got them in trouble? Idaho taxpayers don’t want and can’t afford Obamacare.
OK Justice Roberts, I get it.

Obamacare is Perhaps the Real Assault on the 2nd Amendment

If we allow Obamacare to become the law in Idaho because we get so focused on the 2nd Amendment issues that we ignore it, then I am afraid that we have been bested by a tactical diversion. The real threat to our 2nd Amendment rights may actually be in Obamacare itself.

By now most of us know that Obama signed an Executive Order clarifying whether doctors could ask patients about guns in their houses. Put that information together with the fact that everyone seems to agree that guns should not be possessed by people with mental problems. Secondly, Obamacare puts the Federal government squarely in charge of diagnosis and treatments of such things. A state managed Health Insurance Exchange would consolidate all the information and power necessary to strip 2nd Amendment rights from those of us crazy enough to be worried about our Constitutional rights being usurped.

OBAMACARE IS A BAIL-OUT

It is because the market can no longer support the exploding cost of medicine that big insurance and medicine turned to the coercive power of government to underwrite and subsidize their profits (not to mention"non-profits”). If you don’t think that PPACA was a bail-out, then tell me, who wrote it? It wasn’t the grass roots. Nor was it the legislators--they had to pass it to see what was in it. The only entities that are left are the lobbyists and special interest groups that prey on the public interest like piranhas. The industry is looking to have the public served up on a platter, and a state exchange is the means of accomplishing that. It will consolidate medicine in Idaho in fewer and larger hands. And the poor, and the common people will be hurt the most.

As noted above, the national legislature had to pass Obamacare to see what was in it. In the same way our state will not really know what rules will be imposed through a state exchange until we build one. It is a complete dereliction of duty to pass legislation without any knowledge of what it contains; it is equally derelict to create an exchange, giving complete control over to the Federal bureaucracy, with no enforceable guarantees as to what will be implemented through that exchange.

Do We Want This?

Either stop PPACA/Obamacare in Idaho by stopping the state exchange being pushed through our state legislature, or get ready for unbelievably expensive health insurance. Check out the following article.

Senate Addressing Obamacare Today

Please call to oppose a state health exchange today. The capital # is 800/626-0471. I also sent the following written communicaiton:

Dear Senators,

The recent Supreme Court decision regarding PPACA made one thing clear: that while it was not unconstitutional for the federal government to attempt to entice the states to cooperate, the states do so at their own discretion, and are not obligated to yield to the "Federal blandishments". Since we all know that in order to implement Obamacare the federal government needs your collusion, it begs the question as to why would you cooperate in this socialization of medicine? If medicine is destroyed by bureaucracy here in Idaho, it is not Obama's fault, it is yours. It is your choice to offer Idaho up to this corruption of medicine and the market place. If you take this stand against patients and doctors, and for big government and big medicine, I ask again, why? The only argument I have heard from the Governor's office is that we are required by law to do it, that is pure hogwash and by now more and more of us know it. In the future more will know it yet. You will not be able to hide behind ignorance on this one. So if you sell the people out to the Big Blues and the Hospital Association, just be honest and tell us that is what you are doing.

Your very concerned citizen,
Gresham Bouma

Great Speech on Gun Rights

When you carefully examine the historical evidence, the only sound explanation for disarming the citizenry is because you desire to further abuse them. This man understands that.

Obamacare, The Gift to the Medical Industrial Complex

The following is a letter I sent to all our Idaho Senators:
Dear Senators,

While we are being told that we must choose between a state health exchange or a federal one, we know that is not the whole story. There is no doubt that our state can elect not to yield to the"Federal blandishments” in Obamacare. Justice Roberts made it clear in his majority opinion. It was, however, the dissenting opinion that pointed to the huge money to be made by the biggest players in medicine and insurance thanks to this legislation that attempts to destroy what little is left of a free market in the field. Many of us are under no illusion as to why many of you are so quickly abandoning your posture supporting the health freedom of Idaho’s citizens. Some of Idaho’s most influential corporations, the Big Blues, see the state exchange as an opportunity to consolidate Idaho’s already perverted health insurance market. The question for you as legislators is, will you give Idaho’s consumers as a gift to big insurance and big medicine? Will you cooperate in trussing us up in bureaucratic red tape and surgical tubing as an offering to the medical industrial complex? If you do so the PPACA with its mandated abortion coverage will force me out of the market, since I refuse to buy coverage that pays for what I abhor.

Additionally, with the level of government market protection already in place the pharmaceuticals have gone nuts with the number of recommended inoculations for our children. By law, they have no liability when side effects show up. How much more power will you give them? Since a state exchange would centralize all the medical and financial records of the people, the doors would open wide to mandating whatever inoculation schedule fit the interests of those selling them. Do they really have the best interests of my children in mind? Do you? I know that I do. And I know that those decisions are mine. Take them away and you are threatening my family. You are collectivizing decisions that belong to us parents and stripping us of our constitutionally recognized rights. Obamacare is a personal assault on my freedom and my family, and if you acquiesce to it you join in that assault. Instead I ask you to consider free market reforms such as Dr. Loel Fenwick has recommended and been promoting across the state and nation. Allow us to buy insurance from whomever we want, and whatever coverage we want. Please.

Thank you for hearing my concerns and for the work you do to protect my rights.

Sincerely,

Gresham Bouma
