If we also take into account government's track record on projecting costs, it is ludicrous to expect the costs to be as low as they claim. Medicare, for instance, was about ten times as expensive as projected in 1967. As we make medicine just another branch of government we will destroy accountability, costs control, the doctor-patient relationship, and any chance of meaningful and necessary reforms in medicine.
